Quote from Carl Caulkett on February 10, 2025, 1:42 pmHi Matt, I've just installed what I hope is the 0.9.4 update (the VST3 is dated 07.02.2025 @ 15:44) but the settings still says 0.9.2. How can I be sure I have the latest and greatest? 😉
Hi Carl,
The plugin is supposed to display the in-built version... I guess the fact that it still displays must come from an error on my end: I probably didn't bump the version number correctly.
On your account's page, the files links are indeed still displaying 0.9.2 but that's just the label. The links are pointing towards the latest version of the plugin. I changed it for a more generic label to avoid confusion. I'll now display only "Dread Drumz - [OS]".
Quote from django pither on February 10, 2025, 2:04 pmHi Matt,
Looks like the kick presets are missing on the Mac version (See attached screen shot). Have not been able to test on Windows yet.
I've also noticed that the HiHat Pedal doesn't choke the Opeh HiHat which is a pretty standard operation. Closed HiHat does choke so perhaps this was just missed.
All the flams seem to be snare rolls including the hats and timbale rather than actual flams. This is true across all kits.
I'm pretty sure the hihat choke issue is on both Windows and Mac as it was the same on 0.9.2 but had not got round to logging it. I will test on Win 11 ASAP.
Seems like this is really coming together now and must be approaching V 1.0.0.1 so thanks for all the hard work and adjustments you have made so fat.
Version 0.9.5
OSX 14.4.1

Hi Django,
The pedal hat choking issue has been introduced when I added the ALT triggering keys. I just checked it.
I changed the way the files that contain the presets are handled, to avoid erasing the one that users may have created, but this file didn't catch up.
I'll make a fix and post it. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the reply Matt!
I'm still a little confused because you said in a previous message that the 0.9.4 update included...
"Added: Tooltips! (Activate with the bottom-left 'i' button)" but I cannot see any 'i` button in the bottom-left!
Plus Django mentioned that the 0.9.5 update was now available...
Ah, so the installer may have not overridden the previous VST3 file... (Otherwise you should see the Tooltips Icon).
Don't download the 0.9.5 yet, I'm fixeing the issues he mentionned and upload the fixed version as 0.9.5.
No worries! Just say the word 😉

Software development would be a blissful thing if it wasn't for those pesky customers and their incessant demands 😉

Haha, but if it wasn't for my people I wouldn't be a developer 🙂

And don't you forget it 😮 (See how I led you into my verbal trap 😉)
OK i just uploaded the new version. It should take care of the Kick presets and the choking issue.
It should also overwrite the previous plugin file so the installed version should be the right one.
From now on, I'll only upload a single installer - making one to install the plugin only, and another to install the full plugin is prone to errors (like the images error).
You can choose to not install the samples if you want, but it changes nothing except you'll gain 30 seconds during the installation.

Many thanks to you, by the way! You're making my work so much easier 🙂
Thanks so much Matt! Hihat choking and kick preset issues both resolved on Mac install. I will check with the Windows version as soon as I get a chance but I predict the same there. I'll update when I can.
The flams are still the same snare rolls for snare, hats and timbale.

Dread Drumz Latest
All present and correct! Thanks Matt 🙏🏽
I was working on a track with Dread Drums today and was finding that the drums were flamming with other percussion elements. After experimenting, clearing grooves etc a negative delay on Dread Drums brought them back in line with the other elements. I bounced ou the audio and sure enough Dread Drums was behind the beat. It's not a huge amount but it's noticeable when combining samples from different sources. I don't know if this is down to sample trimming or a latency in the sample triggering.
I've attached a screen shot showing the MIDI note, the bounced audio from Dread Drums and an alternative drum rompler. The delay works out to probably 5 or 6ms.
Version 0.9.5 VST3
M1 Max OS 14.4.1
A bit of further digging shows the amount of delay is different across samples and sample types. These are all unedited presets as labelled on the track. No effects processing beyond that applied to the preset. It looks like kick samples are quite consistently delayed, snares have some varying amount and hats have no delay. This causes kicks and hats to hit at different times which may be authentic to a real drummer but as a VSTi this should be introduced as the musician wants it rather than as part of the engine.
Sorry to be picky about this but it's leading to me being undable to use Dread Drums in a quick workflow. The sample quality is awesome and it's generating lots of ideas for me but I'm having to manually sync sample playback to get the sound I'm after ie properly synced.
I have attached a screen shot of a render of a few different samples running at 120bpm. The grid is set to 1/256th so each grid space is 8ms. I would upload audio examples but the forum won't allow me to.
Hi Django, I saw your post but didn't have time to answer. Thank you for bringin that up. I took a closer look and there are several causes for this.
- The HUMANIZE and GROOVE settings on the MIDI page. They are introducing slight delays indeed to add some human feel.
- The kick and the snare were recorded using a pair of mics. When I cut the samples I ensured that every samples were phased aligned in pair so, some of the samples can include a slight delay.
- It might be that I was too precautious and didn't cut them all 'correctly'. What I mean is that I made sure not to cut too much of the very beginning of the samples to avoid degrading the sound, and ended up cutting not enough...
All that being said, I can correct it and update the samples. In the meantime you can reduce a bit of delay by turning both MIDI 'feel' settings to 0. I should also add an option to have them set to a user-defined value at the beginning.
